ABOUT

My name is Ariel Wiebe - I am a historian, explorer, and dual Ph.D. candidate at the University of New Mexico (USA) and James Cook University (AUS).

I currently work as an independent researcher and freelance editor. My prior positions include: assistant editor, New Mexico Historical Review; program assistant for the Center for the Southwest; and graduate student assistant for undergraduate history courses.

I have an extensive background in both U.S. and Australian history, with an emphasis on race, culture, legislation, citizenship law, transnational history, and World War II.

My current research project engages the transnational history of Japanese civilian internment during World War II. This expedition is a joint venture between UNM and JCU and will bring me across the world to access archives and historic sites, retrace internee migration routes, and document my findings through my professional media outlets, dissertation and online database.
